The D. athabasca species complex contains three recently diverged, prezygotically isolated semispecies (WN, EA, EB). Flies from different semi-species sing drastically different courtship songs, and females show strong preference for semi-species specific songs.
We have developed genomic resources and whole-genome re-sequencing data to study patterns of differentiation between the semi-species, and to identify candidate regions involved in pre-zygotic isolation.
We are combining these data with QTL mapping of song in hybrid flies, and with functional verification of candidate genes.
